The transcript from the first episode of Investment with TheTwigg’s:

Hello and welcome to investing with TheTwigg brought to you by TheTwigg’s. Today is the 21st  of October 2020 and I’m your host Santo.

This is our first ever episode  of “Investing with TheTwigg’s and I would just take this opportunity to  articulate as to what the concept of these podcasts are and the thought process behind this podcast and theTwigg.

If you look at the dictionary, “twig” means  a slender woody shoot growing from a branch of a stem or a tree or a shrub. That’s  where the concept of theTwigg comes from. Because we believe growth happens from a  younger age and it creates the foundation of learning and growth can  happen in different ways.

That’s where theTwigg is based on four different  foundations or pillars, that we call it. I’ll explain that in later part  of the episode as we move along the episode and I continue to have discussions  with you in the future episodes as well.

I would like to introduce myself. I am  Santo. I’m an I.T professional with a background in finance and information technology who loves being around people and communicating with people, sharing learning and educating myself in that process. I grew up in a small township called Belpahar in Odisha in India and have travelled  in different countries and stayed abroad as well, in countries like USA,  in Europe and in Australia. While I grew up I realized that I was pretty  good with numbers. I was good in reasoning and also with the analytical ability.

That’s what is finding me in good stead  in the world of investments and finance. Some of the things that I realized in  the process was as a child growing up there’s a huge focus on marks and scores  rather than on life skills. There was a heavy emphasis on learning or preparing yourself  for the career for the future, things like especially in India, for example there was a heavy focus on
becoming an engineer or a doctor. And this is  something that I see in other countries as well. In Australia for example there’s a heavy  focus to become a lawyer or a doctor.

In this process, the core life skills  gets forgotten and that’s where the concept of “Investing with theTwigg’s” come from. We focus on educating people, young and old, and making it simple for even kids to learn and even younger adults and older people to  just craft the knowledge of investing.

And that’s where as I said earlier  the concept of TheTwigg comes from as a slender woody shoot growing from a branch  of a stem or tree or shrub. It could be young child growing and building the capability or an old man who doesn’t stop learning.

And that’s what thetwigg is all about.

Thetwigg is focused on four different  pillars and the first pillar is finance and money. If you really look in life  right from the time that we start growing we heavily focus on using money for anything that  we do. If we go to Mcdonald’s we need money,  we go to entertainment center we need money,  we buy a house we need money. But surprisingly finance and money is something which is not taught  at a yet a younger age in schools that’s why here at the investing with thetwigg we’ll  focus on finance and money from that point of view making it simple, making it learnable  so that young and old can pick it up as well.

The second pillar that we focus  on is technology. We see technology being ubiquitous and is all pervasive. So for everything  that we do technology is being used. If you want to caller Uber you need technology, you need  to use phone. Your kids currently are probably much more smarter in using iphone compared to  what we are and that’s the power of technology. So from that point of view if you want  to grow and learn about investments, it’s important to understand the technological  changes that is happening in this world as well. That’s the second pillar and the concept  behind the “Investing with theTwigg”.

The third and important pillar is  business. Anything that gets done there, there’s a business process behind  it. So for example, if you want to buy Macd’s there’s a process of making those ice  cream cones which I love to eat for 60 cents. When you travel on your favorite airline there’s  a complete process in place to ensure that the airline never never fails. Just  imagine if the airline had a failure rate of more than near zero  percent. Ideally, we would want the process to work smoothly. So that’s where the third concept comes  from which is primarily focused in business.

The fourth pillar that we quite often  talk about is the educational learning and enhancing of our life skills which is  where this podcast is coming to the picture.

And we bring you these concepts in future  episodes so that we can learn in the process at the same time educating and transferring the  knowledge to yourself, young or old. These four aspects that we talk about is something that I do believe  should be taught very early on, should be taught early in school and which is  something that doesn’t happen in most places.

So again if I repeat, I do believe finance should  be taught in schools, similarly the concepts of
the business, the technology that the people are  using and the concept and the fact that you need to keep on learning throughout your life.  This is something I learned the hard way.

I realistically stopped learning at the age of  Class 12 and only when the life passes by you, you start realizing that you need to keep  yourself updated and keep on learning. That’s where the fifth concept or the  foundation comes in, in the thought process of “Investing with thetwigg’s” because we  believe in starting early and starting small.

So as we move along we will  talk about the foundation and most of our concepts and thought process that  we are articulating will be built in making things pretty simple for  you. So just to summarize for the readers the thought process of bringing in the investing  with thetwigg’s by us is to teach you important life skills around investments while we talk  about concepts around technology and business.

In the process of continuous learning. One of the things that gets asked quite often is what is the age; what is the right age  to start investing and one of the things that I’ll highlight is, investment as you see just requires common sense and even a kid of my son’s age or my daughter’s  age can pick things up pretty early. And mostly in daily routines because  it’s pretty simple for somebody to
really understand what these concepts are.

We at thetwigg, we do not believe that there is any right age – whether you’re young  or old, we believe you should start early. There’s no right age to begin but start early as possible  whether you are a 40 year old, a 60 year old or a five-year-old ,there’s no particular age to  start investing and learning about investing and that’s where most of the concepts that  we’ll talk about will try to make it simple so that even kids can pick it up and learn and move on from there in the coming episodes.

What we’ll do is we’ll take this concept further  and work with you to make this process simple but as I conclude the first episode  of investing with thetwigg’s, I would like to again highlight the fact that we do believe anyone can invest, most people don’t and we should start early but start small.

Thank you for listening. I’m again Santo and I’m looking forward to  talking to you in my next episode.
